Dear Parents & Pupils,
****UPDATE 28th Feb, 2020****
Please note the following original email information below. I'd like to include people that have had contact with ANY RECENT OVERSEAS TRAVELERS will not be accepted to lessons.
I will reiterate my policy regarding illness for all new pupils so you are aware. I do not give lessons to sick children. I teach between 60-70 children during a week, so coming in to contact with sick children who are all sharing the same instruments increases the risk of infection and spreading of illness. Learning an instrument really takes a lot of concentration so sick children can not learn to their best ability, when they've had to come out to school or to my home for a lesson, and often the only thing accomplished is the spread of illness.
As the first case of Coronavirus has now been confirmed in NZ, any sick children WILL be sent away. I have 2 immune-compromised family members for whom this virus can prove deadly, and can not and will not risk their health. I have a no-make up policy due to my extremely full schedule, however at the moment with these unusual circumstances I will make exceptions and allow make-up lessons on a case by case basis.
Firstly the option will be to take the lesson via Zoom (similar to Skype). I have used this method of teaching online with great success with one of my advanced pupils when she moved to Australia a few years ago. As long as your child is able to concentrate then this is a good option.
Secondly, if your child is just too unwell, you are able to cancel their lesson via My Music Staff and a "make-up credit" will be issued. You can then use that credit to book any free spaces available during the week, or in the following school holidays once I have recieved the notification and approved the credit.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I am more than happy to talk through any concerns you may have.
As you will have seen in the media the situation is rapidly evolving internationally concerning the Coronavirus.
This is a new virus and its specific nature is currently unclear, however it appears that you can have the virus at an early stage and not be showing any symptoms. The incubation period is considered to be up to 14 days.
For anyone who may be at high risk of exposure because they have recently been to China, including a transit between flights, or has traveled to another country and may have come into contact with someone who has the virus while travelling it has been advised that you self-isolate for 14 days after the date of your return to NZ.
This means you will not be able to attend any music lessons until the required 14 days has passed.
If you are in this situation please contact me ASAP to let me know, you will not be charged for any lessons missed during this time as long as this is genuine.
Please remember I am a Private Teacher and am in contact with many children over the course of a week.

Term 1 Newsletter

Here is the Term 1 Newsletter link.
Lessons begin again from 10th Feb.
Tonara Practice App - all students have their practice assignments on here. This is used to log practice and for students to contact me if they need help outside of their regular lesson time.
Supersonics Piano - this is supplementary music used alongside whichever method your child is using. I encourage all my Piano/Keyboard pupils to utilise this outside of their regular set work. Kids who try music themselves always do the best! They can use Tonara to message me to check if they are playing it all correctly.
Guitar students - There is a lot of content on this website that I use for extra music to strum along with!
